A Janesville man is facing his Rock County Court case for sexual assault more than 20 years after he was first charged with the crime.

44-year-old Oscar Aguilar was charged with attempted second-degree sexual assault with use of force back in February of 2000.

Online court records show he posted a $5,000 cash bail in March of that year, and a judge later issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

The arrest warrant was returned in September of 2020, and he is once again being prosecuted for the charge while in custody at the Rock County Jail.

A court commissioner set Aguilar’s cash bond at $20,000 this time, and he had his preliminary hearing on Monday.

Officer Denise Stutika testified that she responded to the incident back in 2000, when she said a victim reported Aguilar tried to force her to have sex with him in a Janesville apartment.

He is scheduled to appear again for his arraignment on Tuesday.
