The Janesville City Council and Alcohol License Advisory Committee don’t appear to be seeing eye-to-eye.

In a four to two vote this week the council approved a liquor license for a proposed new Kwik Trip store at 1919 Humes Road even after the A-L-A-C unanimously forwarded a negative recommendation.

The A-L-A-C based their negative recommendation of the fact that the city was already over quota on liquor licenses, the proposed store was very close to a number of other businesses that sell alcohol, and the business hadn’t yet submitted formal building plans to the City.

Members of the City Council felt the store is in a commercial business district away from any schools or residences and would provide a significant tax benefit to the City.

Council member Paul Williams who also sits on the A-L-A-C says it’s frustrating that committee members put so much time and energy into their decisions only to have them over-looked.
