One person is transported to the hospital after a train collides with a passenger vehicle in Jefferson County.

According to a news release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the single-vehicle versus train crash on County Highway F, south of Marietta Avenue in the town of Ixonia just after 1:30 Thursday  afternoon.

Preliminary investigation at the scene, and a witness statement, indicate that the vehicle was heading southbound on F when it tried to cross the tracks while the railroad crossing arms were down. The vehicle collided with an eastbound Amtrak train.

The lone occupant of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for medical care.

The incident remains under investigation.
