Beloit police believe a planned fight led to the Labor Day weekend homicide of a Beloit teen.

Detective Eric Schoonover testified Monday at the preliminary hearing for 15-year-old Dante Wilson, who is charged with first-degree intentional homicide for shooting and killing a 19-year-old man police have not publicly identified.

Schoonover said the victim was mad that another person was messaging his girlfriend and wanted to fight him.

Wilson was among those accompanying the other man at the scene of the fight, and witnesses reported seeing Wilson pull out a gun and shoot the victim.

The teenager was later arrested at Beloit Memorial High School with a loaded gun in his backpack, although one witness told police that Wilson already sold or traded away the gun he used in the shooting.

Wilson was bound over for trial Monday and will have an arraignment next week.
