A concerning shortfall in blood donations last month could stress the American Red Cross blood supply.

The Red Cross collected over 26,000 fewer blood donations than needed in May to meet the needs of patients.

Regional Communication Manager Laura McGuire says someone needs a blood transfusion every two seconds in the United States.

McGuire says the Red Cross Wisconsin sees a decline in blood donations during the summer months.

Blood drives are happening June 15th from noon until 5:00 p.m. at St. John Vianney Church in Janesville and from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Beloit Public Library.
