A Beloit woman accused of a hit-and-run and stabbing incident is found to be competent to stand trial for the charges against her.

21-year-old Alondra Gallardo is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree recklessly endangering safety and hit-and-run causing injury for an April incident in the Town of Newark.

Rock County Judge John Wood ruled Gallardo was competent to proceed, following an evaluation by a mental health professional.

“The author of the evaluation concluded there was no evidence of a genuine psychotic or thought-related disorder,” Wood said. “Perhaps Ms. Gallardo can be somewhat difficult to work with due to some personality traits but those issues are not due to a treatable mental illness.”

Police accuse Gallardo of running over one male friend with a vehicle and stabbing a second male friend in head and neck multiple times after he confronted her about the crash.

Gallardo’s attorney Josh Klaff said she may have intellectual and mental health issues, making the case “complicated,” but they agreed with the findings of the competency evaluation.

She remains in the Rock County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond. She will return to court on June 19 for a preliminary hearing.
