The city of Janesville’s designated overnight homeless parking lot could be moving once again.

The city council will begin discussions Monday night about relocating it from a municipal lot across the street from the Janesville Police Department on Jackson Street.

City staff and local homeless service providers are recommending the council move it back to North Traxler Park, where it started last summer.

Last October, the council moved the designated lot to Jackson Street after neighbors near North Traxler Park complained about alleged illegal activity at the lot, which Janesville police could not substantiate.

The council will also consider locations including Lions Beach, the Lions Pond boat launch and Dawson Softball Complex.

The item on Monday night’s city council agenda is focused on discussion and guidance for the homeless parking ordinance, which is set to expire on September 30. The council is not expected to vote on moving it at this meeting.
