beloit-march-protest

Racial justice activists in Beloit are feeling a mixture of sadness, exhaustion and frustration over the shooting of Jacob Blake by a Kenosha police officer.

SURJ-Beloit held a peaceful protest Monday night at Riverside Park, marching along Highway 51 with signs about valuing Black lives and ending police brutality.

Organizers Yusuf Adama and Megan Miller spoke to the importance of pushing back against the systems of oppression they want to see changed. In their eyes, inaction is no longer a viable choice.

They emphasized the need for community, empathy and love, as opposed to hate.

Protests started across the state as the result of Blake’s shooting, which was captured on video and shared widely on social media.

Blake’s family members say he is in stable condition following surgeries on Monday.
