Dozens of Beloit residents are planning to gather Sunday evening at Riverside Park in a demonstration of community solidarity.
Yusuf Adama and SURJ-Beloit are organizing the gathering and march as a representation that Beloit refuses to be divided and instead stands together, united.
Adama believes some of the reason behind social unrest in 2020 is linked to apathy and a limited sense of community in the face of systematic racism and injustice.
Speakers at the demonstration will emphasize unity, equality and compassion, along with a need to take action to create the change you want to see in the world.
Adama said many people don’t realize the power they have to affect change at the local level, and he hopes this demonstration will push citizens to drive their community forward.
The group will gather at the Riverside pavilion at 6:00 p.m. Sunday and walk to city hall.
