A Marshfield man will spend the next three years in prison for his role in a fatal vehicle crash on the interstate in Rock County.
39-year-old Michael Meyer pleaded guilty Thursday to homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. He will also serve four years of extended supervision as part of his sentence.
Assistant District Attorney Mary Bricco said Meyer was under the influence of narcotics while driving two passengers down to Chicago to purchase more heroin.
He and one of his passengers attempted to switch drivers while the vehicle was moving at highway speeds, which led to the crash that killed the female victim.
Rock County Judge Barbara McCrory called his actions “the definition of stupidity” and believes he needs to treat his addiction issues in a confined setting.
