The push for racial justice in Rock County continues with the longest march yet from local activists.

Showing Up For Racial Justice-Beloit plans to walk from Riverside Park in Beloit to the Rock County Courthouse in Janesville on Saturday, a four-hour march that spans over 12 miles.

Organizer Yusuf Adama said in the wake of the Brianna Taylor situation in Louisville, they’re demanding further police reform, which requires holding local leaders accountable at every level.

The march was planned before President Trump announced a campaign visit to Janesville at the same time, but Adama said he doesn’t want their walk to become a direct counter-protest.

His group plans to march along Highway 51 before crossing over to Prairie Street, which becomes Beloit Avenue and then downtown Main Street in Janesville.

Adama said SURJ-Beloit is putting an extra emphasis on social distancing and safe public health practices as COVID-19 numbers continue to spike locally.
