Elementary school students in the School District of Janesville will continue in-person learning, but the middle and high schools will pivot to all virtual learning after Thanksgiving.

The school board voted Wednesday night to begin distance learning for grades 6 through 12 starting November 30 through at least January 15, 2021.

The board felt that online instruction would not be best suited for the elementary school students, so the district will maintain the current learning model that can pivot to virtual if COVID-19 exposure becomes problematic.

Director Of Benefits Administration And Wellness Tina Johnson said the district has averaged 89 staff members out each day over the last month, largely due to coronavirus exposure.

Director Of Pupil Services Kim Peerenboom noted that each student that has tested positive averaged 11 close contacts in school that have also needed to quarantine.
