A Whitewater woman pleads guilty in Rock County Court to stealing money from her elderly friend.
59-year-old Susan Salyers also agreed to make restitution payments to start paying back the $50,000 she stole over time.
Salyers pleaded guilty to felony charges of theft and identity theft as part of a plea agreement, which included six other similar charges dismissed but read into the record.
Assistant District Attorney James Woywod said police identified 42 checks Salyers signed with the victim’s name without her authorization.
Defense attorney Matthew Lantta said they disagreed about the number of fraudulent checks, but Salyers still wanted to take responsibility for her actions and make things right with the victim.
Rock County Judge Barbara McCrory agreed to the joint recommendation and placed Salyers on probation for four years.
