The Janesville Plan Commission approves a conditional use permit for the new apartments at the former Monterey Hotel.

The updated proposal includes first-floor residential units and a slightly altered parking arrangement.

The ground-level of the building will still include a retail space, which the developer plans to market as a storefront or potential restaurant.

The historic site will have over 50 units of studio, one and two-bedroom apartments with 33 off-street parking spaces around the building.

The penthouse level of the former hotel will be used for mechanical space for the cell towers and new elevator installation.

Construction work is set to start in April with a 10-to-11 month timeline planning to take residents by February of 2022.
