The Rock County Public Health Department puts a local mask mandate in place as state lawmakers go back and forth on Governor Evers’ order.
Interim Health Officer Michelle Bailey issued the local emergency health order Thursday afternoon, requiring community members over the age of 5 to wear face coverings when indoors or in enclosed spaces with anyone outside of their household.
The health order takes immediate effect and will remain in place through May 5.
“We still need to utilize every strategy available to decrease the number of people affected by this virus,” Bailey said in a statement. “It is up to everyone to do their part to keep the community and their families safe.”
The local mask mandates includes the same exceptions as the previous state mask mandate for health conditions, eating, drinking and swimming.

Earlier on Thursday, the Wisconsin State Assembly voted to overturn Governor Evers’ mask mandate. Following that vote, he issued a new public health emergency and mask mandate to keep the order in place at the state level.
