A new downtown business is looking to satisfy Janesville’s sweet tooth.

Courtney Perakis is opening The Sugar Exchange next month at 119 North Main Street in the Bodacious Shops of Block 42.

The candy store and ice cream parlor will be an homage to her late grandfather, who shared her love of sweet treats before he passed away in January of last year.

Perakis said the COVID-19 pandemic gave her the push to get her business plan off of the ground with more time stuck at home this past year.

She sits on the board for Downtown Janesville Inc. and has long thought the city needed a candy store near the riverfront.

The Sugar Exchange plans to offer a variety of nostalgic candies, jellybeans, gourmet chocolates, fudge, truffles and international sweets.
