A Janesville man pleads guilty to homicide for the drug deal that led to another man’s overdose death.

24-year-old Lucas Jacobson was accused of providing the fentanyl-laced opioids that killed a man who was considered his friend.

Assistant District Attorney Mary Bricco said the victim was an addict who needed treatment, but just because he chose to do drugs doesn’t mean he chose to die that night in May of 2020.

Defense Attorney Jason Sanders said Jacobson was selling drugs to support his own habit, and he was taking responsibility for his actions with the guilty plea.

Rock County Judge John Wood sentenced him Wednesday to five years in prison plus five years of extended supervision and an additional five years of probation for separate guilty pleas to using counterfeit bills.
