The latest candidate to join the race for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin has significant ties to Rock County.

Former School District of Beloit interim superintendent Dr. Darrell Williams announced his candidacy Thursday night.

His announcement did not specifically list a political party affiliation.

He was appointed by Governor Tony Evers to be the Administrator of the Division of Wisconsin Emergency Management in July of 2019.

Williams also served nearly 30 years in the U.S. Army, including multiple combat tours in the Middle East.

His announcement says he is a member of the Beloit chapter of the NAACP and was previously a member of the board of directors for the United Way of Rock County in Janesville.

He joins a crowded race for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Ron Johnson, up for election in 2022.
