Local police are hoping to cut-off signs of escalating gun violence.
Janesville Police Chief Dave Moore shared his concerns Thursday with the Rock County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, noting increased rates of gun crimes in larger cities in our region.
He noted a pair of recent incidents in Janesville that caught his attention, and he’s hoping to see the entire criminal justice system do more to keep the community safe.
The first was a string of four separate domestic violence incidents in the last eight months involving the same couple, and Chief Moore is concerned for the victim that the violence is getting worse.
He also talked about a home invasion case, where the suspect had been in the local court system four times since June. Janesville police fear that this suspect may strike again based on his previous crimes.
In both examples, the suspects had been released on signature bonds multiple times as they accumulated arrests.
Moore did not make any specific requests of the other criminal justice stakeholders in the meeting, only raising his concerns and asking that they be careful about keeping citizens safe.
