A Rock County jury finds a Beloit man guilty of multiple felonies from a 2019 shooting.

The trial of 45-year-old Donald Gilmore ended earlier than expected with the jury returning its verdicts Tuesday night.

Gilmore was convicted of attempted second-degree intentional homicide, first-degree recklessly endangering safety, possession of a firearm by a felon and misdemeanor intimidating a witness.

His defense attorney Melissa Frost tried to argue self-defense, noting that the victim started the altercation with Gilmore, who thought the other man might have had a gun.

Assistant District Attorney David Olsen had video evidence of the shooting and said Gilmore escalated the conflict to rise above the level of self-defense.

Rock County Judge John Wood will decide Gilmore’s prison sentence during a hearing scheduled for December 3.
