A local state senator likely won’t be able to support legislative maps proposed by Republicans that keep many voting districts largely the same.

15th Senate District Representative Janis Ringhand says she supports the non-partisan Iowa model.

The Evansville Democrat says one of the biggest issues with keeping the current maps is that Dane County grew by 75,000 people, and Milwaukee lost population so districts need to be changed to represent the number of people in them.

Ringhand says says she supports the maps proposed by the Citizen’s Map Commission even though it would cut her hometown out of the 15th Senate District and move her into the 17th.
