
A 26-year-old Janesville man is sentenced to 18 months in prison and five years of extended supervision for his role in the overdose death of 21-year-old Tarron Turner in December of 2019.
Ashante Byrd apologized to the victim’s family prior to sentencing after pleading guilty Thursday to a single count of manufacture/delivery of heroin.
Byrd is accused of purchasing heroin with the victim and then moving his body into a vehicle after he died of an overdose the next morning.
The dealer who sold the heroin, 29-year-old Joseph VanGampler, is also charged in Rock County Court however he remains on the run.
