Assisting homeless students may be a real challenge for educators in the Beloit School District. Pupil Services Director Melissa Beavers says close to 300 children and families are already listed as homeless this year, with close to 50 students identified as unaccompanied youth. Beavers says the district has received a $50 thousand grant through the American Rescue plan to help support the educational needs of homeless children and youth. The district may be able to do more this year to help students deal with mental health issues as well. Beavers says the district has received a $75 thousand grant from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to help with their efforts. The District will also be using a $75 thousand grant from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to help students deal with Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse issues.
