The Janesville Police Department looks at adding another tool to it’s tool belt.
Police Chief David Moore says there’s been a few incidents where young individuals from Rockford or Madison come to Janesville and steal vehicles and them take them to other communities to commit crimes.
Moore says he’s looking at purchasing a license plate reader, which automatically scans plates.
Moore says not only will the license plate reader be able to identify stolen vehicles, but it can be deployed following a crime to track vehicles coming in and out of the area, allowing officers to focus on vehicles from out of town.
