The children served at a local domestic violence shelter have something to get excited about.

DEFY Domestic Abuse Beloit works to convert it’s living room into a children’s playground with emphasis on early childhood development and addressing the impact of trauma they’ve experienced.

Director of Survivor Empowerment Services Kelsey Hood-Christenson says a team from the Rock County Leadership Development Academy will be doing the work.

Hood-Christenson says community members can donate to a Gofundme campaign to help finance the project, or purchase in-kind donations from an Amazon wish list.

The groups anticipate raising at least $4,000 by February or early March, allowing them to begin the demolition and construction phase.
