The Janesville City Council approves applying for a 7.5 million dollar federal grant to fill an expected financing gap in the total construction cost of the proposed Woodman’s Community Center.

City Manager Mark Freitag says it’s been no secret there’s a gap in funding the project.

Fretiag says the City has indicated it would borrow no more than $15 million for the project and the Friends of the Indoor Sports Complex are raising $7 million.

Should the grant be received, the city would be responsible to match 20-percent of the total, which is $1.875 million.

The resolution passed by on a five to two vote with council members Paul Williams and Heather Miller dissenting.
