Reconstruction work will begin in March on US 14/Humes Road between Deerfield Drive and WIS 26/Milton Avenue in Janesville. Improvements include building offset left turn lanes at intersections; new traffic signals; sidewalk/shared used path on each side of Humes Road; as well as new bus stop location at the US 14 intersection with Pontiac Drive. Crews will also replace storm sewer pipes and install curb and gutter along US 14. In addition, landscaping (trees and plant beds) will take place along the highway within the project limits.
Some work will start this week along US 14/Humes Road with minimal traffic impacts. Motorists are advised to be alert for crews and equipment near the travel lanes and slow down in work zones.
Beginning Monday, March 14, US 14 will be closed to all traffic between WIS 26/Milton Avenue and Pontiac Drive until late August 2022. Businesses in this area have alternative access locations via Morse Street and Holiday Drive. The public is urged to continue visiting the local businesses during construction. Traffic will be able to cross Humes Road at Pontiac Drive and Lexington Drive.
For the section of US 14 from Pontiac Drive to Deerfield Drive, traffic will reduce to one lane in each direction and shift to the north side of US 14/Humes Road, allowing crews to reconstruct the south side. When complete, all traffic will shift to the new pavement on the south side as crews reconstruct the north side of US 14/Humes Road.
Short-term ramp closures are expected this fall at the I-39/90 and US 14/Humes Road interchange.
All work operations and closures are weather dependent and subject to change.
The $11.6 million US 14/Humes Road project is scheduled to be completed in October 2022. More information on the project can be found at projects.511wi.gov/us14-janesville/.
