Plans to expand the Rock County Sheriff’s Office complex clear another hurdle.

The Janesville Plan Commission unanimously approved a conditional use permit amendment for the project at their meeting Monday night.

Rock County Sheriff Troy Knudson says the proposed two-story expansion of the jail will create classroom space where inmates can be brought together to meet with treatment providers.

Rock County Director of Facilities Management Brent Sutherland says the new jail design puts the Sheriff’s Office in a good position to reduce recidivism.

The Rock County Board of Supervisors voted last week in favor of borrowing $78 million over the next three years to fund the project.
