A local nurse is honored with the DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses from The DAISY Foundation. Edgerton Hospital and Health Services Patient Care Services Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Alison Hanaman says a family that lost a loved one in 1999 started the DAISY Award which honors nurses who change people’s lives or go beyond to provide care. Hanaman says it’s the hospital’s second year doing it with Lisa Kopnick being the recipient. Hanaman says Kopnick received the award because a patient came in last year to their emergency room with a life threatening condition, and they were unable to transfer him to a facility that could perform surgery. Kopnick contacted a family friend, a surgeon in the area, who was emergency credentialed at their hospital and performed the surgery saving the man’s life.
