The City of Janesville considers partnering with an electric bus manufacturer and Alliant Energy about a partnership on an electric vehicle pilot project.

Transit Director Rebecca Smith says the Janesville City Council will consider applying for a federal grant at their meeting Monday night.

Smith says if the grant is approved, it would cover 85 percent of the cost of two electric 35 foot buses. The remaining 15 % of the cost would be split between the City and Alliant Energy.

The City’s total share of the estimated $2.2 million project would be about $131,000.
