A report of chronic wasting disease in a deer has surfaced in Walworth County. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection confirm Wednesday a white-tail deer at a farm in the county testing positive for the disease. The neurological disease is caused by an infectious protein that affects the animal’s brain and is fatal. The farm and its herd are each placed under quarantine while the state agriculture agency and the U.S. Department of Agriculture conduct an epidemiological investigation.
