Community Action Inc.’s Fresh Start students participate in a “Vaping: Know the Truth” national art challenge as Community Action Inc. and SSM Health partner up. Community Health Regional Director Megan Timm says they do a lot of prevention education in the classroom, discussing health, importance of eating right, and negative impact of things like vaping. Timm says this challenge allows students to take what they’ve learned in class and put it into something actionable, and a way to learn about a topic may be through art. She says they came across this project, asked if they could do it, and were so invested in the topic that they wanted to take it to the next level. Students have already taken the steps to complete the challenge themselves this spring and SSM Health was part of conversations early on and able to financially support the project.
