At least one member of the Janesville City Council doesn’t appear surprised that the potential cost of an indoor athletic and conference center at Uptown Janesville has increased due to inflation.

Paul Williams says while the initial estimate was $30 million, the committee designing the facility has determined that inflation alone has increased that number to at least $ 41 million.

Williams says depending on how long the project takes to get approved the final number could be even higher.

Williams says the feasibility for the project was done prior to the pandemic and prior to approval of the Ho-Chunk Nation casino in Beloit so he questions how valid it still is.
