Several city of Janesville officials are facing a lawsuit on accusations of violating the Americans with Disabilities and Fair Housing acts.  Developer Bolphy, LLC. has filed a civil suit in Rock County Court naming City Manager Mark Freitag, Deputy City Manager Ryan McCue, and Fire Marshal Sue North.  The civil suit claims the fire marshal “illegally” blocked the occupancy of a former downtown Janesville funeral home being redeveloped into apartments for people with disabilities.  The city is being accused of “fraud”, with the suit claiming the plan commission unanimously approved a conditional-use permit for the property, and hadn’t raised any issues over occupancy.  The suit asks the city be prevented “from further interference”.
