The drinking water in Evansville is getting safer, thanks to a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

The City of Evansville was awarded $58,000 to help fund the replacement of lead water service lines throughout the city.

DNR Project Manager Kevin Olson says the Safe Drinking Water Loan Program has provided about $63 million statewide to help communities deal with lead pipes.

Olson says that although comments are still being accepted through August 5th, the Safe Drinking Water Loan Program has determined that the project will not result in significant adverse environmental effects, and no further environmental review or analysis is needed before proceeding with funding the project.
