Two grants from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will allow the City of Janesville to improve 1.41 miles of the Fisher Creek Trail on the west side.
City Manager Mark Freitag says the grants focus on enhancing natural resources and connecting neighborhoods and schools to transportation options.
A $498,000 Transportation Alternatives Program grant will require a 20 percent match and will cover the section of trail from Court to Dartmouth Street and connect to Parker High School.
Freitag says a $249,000 Recreational Trails Program grant covers the section from Rockport Road to Court Street and will require a 50 percent match.
