Van Buren Elementary school in Janesville was a stop for Governor Tony Evers’ on his re-election campaign trail on Wednesday.

Principal Stephanie Edwards says she got the younger grades ready for the visit by telling them that the “President of Wisconsin” was coming, and with the older grades she had conversations about not being intimated by all the people in suits that would be stopping by.

Van Buren has an enrollment of nearly 400 students and Edwards says that quality staff members make a big difference in the lives of students and that having additional staff to help with class sizes will be something that she’ll always advocate for.

Helping address staff shortages to keep class sizes small was on a list of Evers’ recently announced priorities for his 2023-25 budget.
