Students and staff at Beloit’s School Board meeting Tuesday night voiced concerns about the performing arts in district schools.

Director of Orchestras at Beloit Memorial High School Sam Ewert says a parent should be able to send their child to any intermediate school in the district and be presented with the same opportunities.

Ewert says that the quality of performance facilities varies from building to building, which adds to their issues of equal performance opportunities.

A number of students expressed their frustrations with staffing issues that forced certain classes to not be offered, or offered before school as a zero hour class.

The students also said that ever since the district went to the intermediate model, they have had to scramble to get instruments distributed across the district to four buildings as opposed to two.
