If you missed the boat on National Thaw Your Turkey Day on November 17th, don’t panic.

Butterball Turkey Hotline expert Jan Allen says the number one question she gets is when and how to thaw the bird.

Allen says says a frozen turkey takes about one day per four pounds of meat to thaw in the refrigerator.

If you are under a time crunch Allen says you can immerse the bird in cold water for about 30 minutes a pound, changing the water every half hour.

Allen recommends cooking the bird at 325 degrees in a shallow roasting pan until a meat thermometer reads 180 degrees in the thigh and 165 degrees in the breast or stuffing.
