A 30-year-old Beloit man who was shot by a Beloit police officer as he lunged for her gun takes a plea deal in Rock County Court.

On Wednesday Jorge Bautista-Almaraz plead not contest to a single felony count of attempt to disarm a peace officer. A second charge of criminal damage to property was dismissed but read into the record.

Bautista Almaraz was shot December 15th of 2021 when police say an officer attempted to check on his mental welfare.

During the encounter police say Bautista Almaraz repeatedly lunged at the officer. He was shot twice.

The officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Bautista-Almaraz faces up to six years in prison at his sentencing on February 9th.
