FEMA is asking local municipalities to encourage youth leaders to apply for a spot on FEMA’s Youth Preparedness Council.

City of Beloit Emergency Management Coordinator Patti Miller says those on the council will take a trip out to Washington DC to meet with top leaders at FEMA to get ideas on strategies and initiatives.

Miller says applicants must be a current 8th through 11th grader and must have either participated in community activities, served in a leadership role like student council, lived through a disaster and shared their experiences, or participated in a emergency preparedness activity.

Miller says FEMA considers COVID 19 a disaster, so the pool of applicants is much bigger and almost anyone can apply this time around.

Those interested can find the link to apply by visiting the city of Beloit’s Facebook page.
