Walworth County is taking another step to help homeowners remain vigilant against property fraud.

Register of Deeds Michele Jacobs says a free land notification alerts service will be available starting Wednesday.

Walworth County property owners can sign up to receive an email alert when documents are recorded against their name or business.

Property fraud occurs when someone illegally uses an owner’s name on records related to their property for financial gain or acquisition of their assets.

Jacobs says property fraud isn’t as big of a problem here as it is in other states.
