$15 million from the State of Wisconsin could be the final piece of the funding puzzle for the Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center project in Janesville.

City of Janesville officials are hopeful the State Building Commission will approve $15 million in funding for the proposed indoor athletic and conference center at Uptown Janesville.

City Council President Paul Benson says he had a conversation a couple weeks ago with Governor Tony Evers staff, but no commitment yet.

The estimated cost of the project is $45 million.

A group of residents have called for a referendum to decide whether the project is in the best interest of citizens.
