City of Janesville officials are hopeful the State Building Commission will approve $15 million in funding for the proposed indoor athletic and conference center at Uptown Janesville.
City Council President Paul Benson says he had a conversation a couple weeks ago with Governor Tony Evers staff, but no commitment yet.
The estimated cost of the project is $45 million.
A group of residents have called for a referendum to decide whether the project is in the best interest of citizens.
