The cities of Janesville and Beloit are declaring winter weather emergencies, and it’s not because of snow.

Janesville Operations Director Maggie Darr says the plows have an easier time salting when vehicles are not in the way.

Darr says City crews were out pre-treating the streets Tuesday and plan to continue salting throughout the day Wednesday.

Janesville’s winter weather emergency begins at 3:00 Wednesday afternoon and runs for 24 hours.

The City of Beloit’s snow emergency went into effect at 10:00 Wednesday morning and runs until 10:00 Thursday morning.
