A winter storm bringing a mix of snow, freezing rain, and sleet provided plenty of challenges for Janesville’s Public Works division.

Operations Director Maggie Darr says the biggest challenge was trying to plan for the uncertainty of the storm and making sure they had enough staff on hand while also not over working them.

Darr says they ended up dealing with more slush accumulation than originally anticipated, and pivoted from just doing a full salt of residential roads to a full plow.

Darr says they did take out a few mailboxes in the process, and if anyone had their mailbox damaged due to a snowplow they should contact they city’s public works division to make a claim.
