The Janesville Police Department is hosting an on-site assessment as part of a program to achieve reaccreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.

Lieutenant Mark Ratzlaff says the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group issues the assessment, and they have to reapply for reaccreditation every three years.

Ratzlaff says one of the advantages of being accredited is their policies are up to date or even ahead of the curve, like having some of the Eight That Can’t Wait policies in effect for more than a decade.

Citizens are encouraged to submit written or vocal comments to the WILEAG team assigned to Janesville.
