Janesville’s Recreation Division has been chose as one of just 69 youth programs around the country to receive grant money from the USA Swimming Foundation.
Recreation Programmer Elaina Noffsinger says the money will allow them to provide low cost or free swimming lessons to the public, and they estimate the funds will give them an extra 22 scholarships.
Noffsinger says swimming is a skill much like riding a bike, so being able to give someone lessons is a gift which truly lasts a lifetime.
Noffsinger says applications for scholarships will be on the city’s website at their swim lessons page, and should be available later this month.
The USA Swimming Foundation has given out more than $647,000 to programs across the country.
