The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources works to understand the challenges individual counties face before finalizing plans for the fall deer hunt.

Deer Program Specialist Jeff Pritzl says County Deer Advisory Council meetings are happening all over the state, including one at the DNR Service Center in Janesville on May 2nd at 7:00 p.m.

The County Deer Advisory Councils will review current county data on fawn to doe ratios; harvest trends; herd health; deer impacts on agriculture, forest health, economics and vehicular collisions; as well as the deer hunter experience.

Pritzl says a challenge for the entire Southern Farmland Zone, which includes Rock county, is the antlerless deer harvest doesn’t meet the objectives they are looking for.
