Memorial Day is about more than barbeques and a day off of work.

Janesville Patriotic Society President Tom Stehura says the true spirit of the holiday will be present in a number of activities planned for Monday.

There will be a ceremony at Oakhill Cemetery at 8:00 a.m. At 11:00 a.m. a parade through downtown Janesville begins, and it’s followed by another ceremony at 11:30 in Traxler Park.

Sunday at noon the American Legion will dedicate their new monument at veterans plaza at Traxler park, and at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday there will be a ceremony remembering the Janesville 99.
