The Janesville School Board will explore adding LaCrosse to its list of varsity sports after hearing from people associated with the Janesville LaCrosse Club at a Tuesday meeting.

Multiple players, parents, and coaches all spoke at the meeting and highlighted the benefits of adding lacrosse as a varsity sports, but one speaker says the club will be at a severe disadvantage if it isn’t added as a varsity sport.

Superintendent Mark Holzman says he met with members of the club in May, and determined there aren’t enough students in Janesville alone to field a boys and girls team and they would be required to add student athletes, likely from neighboring school districts.

The board approved during the meeting to have Holzman draft a proposal to bring it back before the board.
